The Glow Worm Company team gathered in Ramnagar, Uttarakhand, for their Founding Day celebration. They rearranged furniture in a hotel room to create comfortable seating arrangements, reflecting on what they had accomplished.
The team described themselves as “a room full of (happy) people” as they celebrated reaching their nine-year mark and stepping into their tenth year.
Dreaming
The day began with the three organizational radials — Growth and Excellence, Culture and Future, and Innovation and Scale — engaging with Lego Serious Play. This problem-solving technique uses “metaphorical thinking” to enable teams to express complex ideas and emotions. Each team built representations of their radial as it existed and as they envisioned it for the future, borrowing and lending blocks across teams to create an integrated vision of Glow Worm’s future.
Celebrating
The team reviewed nine years of memories through a curated collection of polaroids marking significant “firsts” from 2014 to 2022. They organized these images chronologically, sharing stories about accomplishments ranging from “our first client project to our first get-together as a remote-work team.”
Committing
As evening approached, the team used paints and chart paper to leave handprints, symbolically declaring their commitment to the organization’s future.
Embracing
The celebration concluded with reflection aligned with the organization’s value of inner work. Team members processed their experiences, ultimately recognizing they were “in the right place, with the right group of people.”
Closing
The article concluded by noting how ideas “sparked in one room in a corner of the world” could “take you to another in a completely different corner.”
